If you were to see my Warhammer Fantasy collection 15 years ago you would have seen thousands of models spanning 7 different races: my main armies (the 3 chaos armies after Hordes of Chaos was ripped into pieces along with High Elves), my secondary armies (vampire counts and orcs and goblins) and my ‘I have a few models for this army’ (ogres). 13 years ago I moved to China and only played or painted on rare trips home.

Eventually I decided it was time to start shedding some of the superfluous models in my collection. First went the ogre, beastmen, orc and goblin and vampire count models. I hopped on kijiji and before long I had buyers for all the models in those armies. Beastmen I sold in pieces while the goblins and vamps I sold as one giant lot. The few ogre models I had I gave to a friend. By my next trip home a year later I decided that I would trim down the armies I wanted to keep to a few different army lists and sell the rest. I eventually decided to sell High Elves in one big lot (the guy who bought them was quite happy with the price – it was a big force) and only keep my two main chaos armies.

My next trip home I crafted a few army lists for each force and then started to sell off the rest of my models. I sold them piecemeal and was briefly happy with the collection I had left. However, while in China that next year I decided that what I really wanted was to get rid of ALL of my Warhammer models and then maybe start a new collection, build it slow, and paint it to as high a standard as I was capable. So when I got home next I sold off everything I owned. I planned a new army (an all Nurgle WoC army of 2500pts) and picked up a few boxes of models.

My next trip home didn’t happen for five years because of various circumstances, including Covid. When I did return home I started painting my new force but only got a dozen or so models in. A year ago I went home for the summer again and finally got down to business. My army was comprised of the following:

A fully-kitted Demon Prince, 30 Chaos Warriors with Great Weapons, 40 Marauders with Flails, 12 Marauder Horsemen with Flails, 2 groups of 5 Hell Hounds, 2 Chariots and a Chimera.

I named my general “Skall’Ax, The Putrid Claw of Nurgle” and created a backstory for him, which I’ll upload at a later time for anyone interested.

That last trip home I was able to complete the warriors, all the hell hounds, both chariots, the demon prince and the chimera. I got a start on the marauders and finished a dozen or so. I also began basing my models for the first time (I had played around with basing years ago but had settled on just painting the bases and leaving it at that). This summer I’ll finish them and pop off the horsemen as well. Once I’m finished painting this army I plan on slowly starting a Khorne force with the same point cap.
